Mitochondrial Peptide

Also referred to as elamipretide, MTP-131, Bendavia.

SS-31 is a synthetic tetrapeptide, also known by its clinical name elamipretide, designed to selectively accumulate in the inner mitochondrial membrane and stabilise cardiolipin — a phospholipid critical to mitochondrial architecture and energy production. Its alternating aromatic and positively charged amino acid residues allow it to cross biological barriers including the blood-brain barrier.

Research spans both preclinical animal models and registered human clinical trials, with studies published under both names (SS-31 and elamipretide).
