Growth Hormone Secretagogue
Also referred to as NNC 26-0161.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide and selective growth hormone secretagogue that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a). Its amino acid sequence — Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2 — was identified through an extensive medicinal chemistry programme. It is distinguished from earlier secretagogues by its selectivity: it does not produce meaningful elevations in cortisol, prolactin, or ACTH.
The published literature includes both preclinical pharmacology and a limited body of human data. Research interest centres on growth hormone release kinetics and the compound's comparatively clean endocrine profile relative to other GHS-R1a agonists.
